April 11. I vividly remember the day my life outside work ceased. I hit the pause button on life. In the 7 weeks since, I'd put work ahead of friends, family, volunteering and even myself. I worked until my eyes were in physical pain. All nighters were the norm. I worked 55 hrs straight in the office at one point, which ended with a brief fainting spell. I was pushed to the edge..hanging on a string and not seeing an end to the madness. I learned a few things though. Newspapers at my office are delivered at 3am, the traders started coming in around 5am. Our lobby doors, which usually lock up at 7pm, are unlocked at 4am. The annoying birds outside my apartment start chirping at 4am. More importantly... it showed me how life would be if I continued my ways. I learned my lesson. I'm hoping to hit the play button on life soon. Time to catch up with friends and family, time to rest and get healthy. Time to volunteer and give back. Time to make life more than a job. Time to FIND my next job. Time to live life. On that note, I just booked my first real vacation since...college. 1 week in Japan, 1 week in Thailand and 1 more week..somewhere in Asia! Anyways, so I literally worked 7 days a week, 100+ hrs a week for 7 weeks straight. I managed to get about 3 days off since April 11...and of course...what else did I do but....wait for it.....thats right.... indulge myself with FOOD. Enjoy...
Benkyodo in Japantown. Guys, the best mochi I've had...ever... Even ones people bring back from Japan can't compare. My favorite? A white bean paste mochi with a fresh strawberry in the center.
Thats right..you see it...a massive lobster roll from Lobster Shack in north beach. sweet, juicy lobster meat between an amazing buttery, soft toasted roll that just baffles my mind. The roll is soft but the texture is firm and a bit sticky. No idea how or what they do to it..but the roll is just as good as the lobster. The rest are from Kiss Seafood in japantown. I haven't been to Japan yet (i will be there in a month!) but I this is the most amazing sushi I've had in my life. Not even close, simply the best. If there's one place to try before you die..its here. A small, hidden, 3 table restaurant tucked into a side street in japantown. DO IT.
